Here is the place to leave all comments and crit on the way I play Q. It's also the best place for OOC contact.

Q is an urban sorcerer with a focus on technomagic. He has general magical abilities and can manipulate just about any gadget or computer to do what he wants.

There are basically three influences on my little Q's life and personality, and I'm going to discuss his bio in terms of these influences rather than in chronological order.

Orphan

Q is an orphan. William Abernathy's parents died in a car wreck when he was seven years old, while coming to pick him up from school. William, at seven years old, was in secondary school already. After his parents died, he threw himself into his studies both in the mundane and the magical. He poured his heart into his work, particularly when he discovered the power in the wire.

The Blue Electric Angels

The blue electric angels have no name; they're essentially an urban godform created by the leftover life that people put into the phones. They also, by extension, carry the voices of the internet and computer networks. William could hear them, starting shortly after his parents died. Their song was in the dial tone, saying "Be me be free." William needed an escape from his own world, and as he hadn't been discovered by any sorcerers he needed an outlet for his magic before it drove him insane. The angels tempted him. He wanted to fall into the wires and follow them. Since that was obviously impossible in a literal sense, he followed them through the internet. He crafted his magic around their song, around their fire. They were his first love, and in time they gained his worship and adoration.

Silva

Silva found Q when the fourteen-year-old hacked into his network using magic and his own skills. Silva blocked him out, an attack which left William nursing a headache for several days. But Silva was curious, and hunted down the young man who'd gotten so far into his sanctum.

He didn't tell William what he'd gone looking for him for, of course. Instead he reached out to William online, speaking as a more experienced and more skilled hacker; and drew him in. He taught the young man and encouraged him to push himself, always looking to the endgame--when William would be able to be his mole in MI6. For the first several years their contact was entirely online. Will had had no steady adult presence since his parents died, and Silva became that for him. When William graduated university, Silva left his island habitat to congratulate the young man in person. It was the first time William had met his mentor face-to-face.

Silva returned home a few days later, but he came to see William on a few other occasions. Always, the meetings lasted a few days, and then Silva would return home. William lived for the days he saw his mentor. He prayed to the blue electric angels to help him find the man, and his skill grew by leaps and bounds as he chased his mentor across the globe until he found his island home.

Silva realized when William had found him, and brought him to the island to live with him. William put in appearances on the mainland to give the impression he still lived and worked there; but Silva taught him in person now, and he rarely left. They were lovers at one point; Silva used it like he used everything else, to secure William's loyalty. William, by the time he was twenty-three, loved Silva completely.

Silva now told William what he needed from him. Without question, William went back to the mainland into a position where MI6 would recruit him at age twenty-four, the youngest person they'd ever recruited. He progressed rapidly, until at age twenty-six he became their youngest quartermaster ever. He planted spyware in the mainframe for Silva to use as a back door.

And then MI6 HQ exploded, and the illusion was shattered. Q had seen Silva kill before, of course. But it had never been someone he knew. Never a coworker, a friend. Suddenly eight of his coworkers, people he'd liked and respected, were dead, in an explosion that could have taken him as well. Finally, he realized Silva didn't care--about anyone, let alone his spy.

Silva had done a good job making sure Q would never be connected to him. Now Q erased every trace of his involvement in the explosion, not difficult in the mess of moving and with magic at his disposal. He collected himself, quickly, and went back to MI6 as their loyal operative. William Abernathy died in the explosion; Q was all that remained.

But he forgot how well Silva knew him, and how well he knew Silva. He forgot that Silva would know how he would try to break into his computer. He forgot, he messed up, and Silva got past him to kill again, this time aiming for M, for whom Q had real loyalty.

When Silva was caught, Q didn't go see him. He refused to acknowledge the other man's existence. But his faith in himself was shaken. Not such a clever boy after all. Not such a clever sorcerer.
